Hello and Welcome to the RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB'S BACK TO SCHOOL BOOK AND BLOG BLOCK PARTY AT S.J. FRANCIS' WRITER BLOG. Location: Jackson, Mississippi, USA. (Home of the Blues, the Delta, Kudzu, and this author)
I'm so glad to meet every one of you and so pleased that you stopped by. Everyone is Welcome to the party. Tell your friends and family for a chance to win a GREAT DAILY PRIZE from one of our Great Indie Authors until August 31st.
First, who is S.J. Francis? Answer: A writer at heart and a new member to Rave Reviews Book Club, S. J. was born to be a writer, but not until high school did writing take over. Always ready to take on any writing project when assigned one as a child, S.J. wasn't aware, yet that it was a love for writing burning within the soul that welcomed the projects. It all started with the publication of one short story that had been rejected so many times, that S.J. lost count that the writing bug awakened. A long time freelance writer, a University Lecturer, bibliophile, and most recently, a novelist. Writing keeps S. J. sane even when life around isn't. An active voice for causes that involve animals, and military veterans, S. J. is never at a loss to help others, especially the underdog, cat, and other writers.
With over three hundred publication credits, S. J. writes for many publications, as well as regularly contributing to local newspapers. S. J.'s background also encompasses working as an executive producer for network and public TV. When not writing S.J. can be found reading a good book, or spending time in the outdoors with the pets. As in all the stories S. J. writes, in the end, good and bad, it's all about family.

Instead of telling you about my book here today, I've decided to do something different. I'd like to tell you about some books I've read that I really enjoyed. Some are written by fellow #RRBC members. Others aren't, but they all share one thing in common. They're worth your time. At least, that is my opinion. They're all available for sale on amazon and other on-line retailers. Here they are in no particular order. Normally this wouldn't be such an easy feat, but I just put down the books that came to mind and the results were:
*AUTHOR JANELLE JALBERT:
I give this memoir 5 out of 5 stars.
Synopsis: Angels do indeed come in fur suits. It’s love at first sight...for both of them. An abandoned yet tenacious pup with one blue eye and one brown eye beats the odds and is enlisted as one woman’s WINGDOG. It's a role he takes seriously, but he knows that his human needs more than just another set of eyes and ears. He must show her how to laugh and how to love again. His loyalty knows no bounds, and he takes his duties seriously riding shotgun as the pair travel life’s highway. A dog may be man’s best friend, but the truth is…A WINGDOG is truly a woman’s gift. For readers who enjoy contemporary canine classics such as MARLEY & ME, THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN, and A DOG’S PURPOSE, Janelle Jalbert’s ‘Magical Mutt Memoir’ combines the best of these storytelling traditions.
Diary of An Airedale
"Author P.J. Erickson:"
I give this memoir 5 out of 5 stars!
Synopsis: Diary of an Airedale will provide some valuable advice on raising the new addition to your family, as well as a few interesting dog facts and lots of chuckles. As dog folk know, their canine friends are really people in fur coats. They think, feel, talk, work and play, and Airedales are renowned for their sense of humor. In short, they are a lot like us. Writing this book was a lot of fun for me. I hope reading it will be for you too.
Shadows At Sunset
Author Tonya Royston
I give this Young Adult book 5 out of 5 stars.
Synopsis: She never thought her ability to communicate with wild animals was anything more than a unique gift. But this gift is tied to a long history of secrets that threaten to shatter her one chance at true love...
Laken Sumner isn't your average teenager. Ever since she realized that wild animals could hear her thoughts, she's spent more time in the woods with them than with other children. Even her wolf is a better friend to her than most people. She trusts him--so much so that she follows him out into the wilderness in the middle of the night to find a lost little boy. But the boy's disappearance is only the beginning.
Beautiful Old Dogs
by Gary Gross
I give this Photo/memoir 5 out of 5 stars.
Synopsis: A charming, delightfully photographed tribute to the older dog, with essays and poetry.
Gandhi once said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way that its animals are treated."
Nisei
by J. J. White
I give this Historical/War novel 5 out of 5 stars.
Synopsis: After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States Government encouraged all eligible young men to enlist immediately in the fight against its enemies overseas--all eligible young men, except Japanese-Americans. Nisei is the story of Hideo "Bobby" Takahashi, a Hawaiian-born Japanese-American who must overcome prejudice, internment, and the policies of his own government to prove his loyalty to his country. Narrated by Bobby Takahashi and read by his son, Robert, forty-six years after Bobby's death, the story details the young Nisei's determination to fight honorably for his country and return to the young love he was forced to leave--a girl he cannot have because she is White.
I'm Not Crazy....I'm Allergic
Sherilyn Powers
I give this health memoir 5 out of 5 stars.
Synopsis: What would you do if you found out that after 50 years of being told you have a "chemical imbalance" and mental illness, that severe allergies were at the root of your problems?
Rooftop Angels
Tierney James
I give this adventure 5 out of 5 stars.
Synopsis: When Tessa Scott wakes with blood on her hands in a rat infested shack in Afghanistan, she discovers six orphan girls and the Undersecretary of State counting on her for protection. Confused at how she got there or why a smoldering Black Hawk helicopter has crashed outside the village, forces her into yet another adventure of cat and mouse with the Taliban who intend to kidnap them.
Just Another Termination
Linda Thorne
I give this Mystery/Suspense 5 out of 5 stars.
Synopsis: At long last, she lands a job with a good employer, but the trouble is just beginning… Human resources manager Judy Kenagy hopes her days of running from bad bosses and guilt-ridden memories are over. But alas, she’s barely settled in when a young female employee is found shot to death, spinning her new workplace into turmoil.
Stardust Dreams
S. B. Redstone
Synopsis: Lance Forrester is a dreamer. After a celebrated career as an astronaut and engineer, he and a friend build a secret spacecraft to seek their destinies in the stars. But his friend dies and Lance is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Desperate not to succumb to his fate, he convinces an acquaintance, ailing actress Sage Saint Claire, whom he hasn’t seen since high school, to join him on his quest to reach an advanced alien civilization which can heal them both. Unfortunately, true life is not a Hollywood movie, as much as Sage might want it to be, and problems abound.
And last but not least, my debut novel, a family saga, women's fiction, Shattered Lies by moi, S.J. Francis.
Synopsis: A family battles racism, hatred and each other.
She wants to know the truth, but some secrets might be better left alone...
Kate Thayer has a good life as a veterinarian, running the family horse farm--until she uncovers an act of unimaginable treachery by those she trusted most and learns that everything she knew about herself was a lie. Her paternal grandmother, the woman who raised her, is behind a number of devastating secrets Kate is compelled to discover. But the deeper she digs, the more betrayal she finds, changing her life in ways she could have never foreseen.NOTE: 10% of this book's sales will be donated to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation to help fight this insidious disease that strikes both adults and children. For more info about this disease see: www.pkdcure.org/

DeleteCheers! S.J. Francis
I have a couple of those books you recommend but have so many on my TBR list. I'll have to place my radar on them now. I love animal stories so I know I will enjoy Wingdog Pup. I looked over your websites and the one on Consumers View grabbed my attention because I too have noticed how small magazines seem to be getting. Particularly "Parade Magazine" which is circulated throughout the U.S. It has become a shell of its former self and is insulting to the reader. They went from having quality stories, to junk articles and now you can barely see it. There, I'm glad I got a chance to rant. Its nice to know that I was not the only one feeling deprived. lol. It is so nice to know you S.J. and I enjoyed your blog tremendously. Thank you so much for sharing a little about you.
ReplyDeleteHello Shirley! Rant away. I don't mind a bit. I think if more people ranted about things, companies wouldn't get away with so much. Isn't it horrible the way they do things and think we won't notice? They think we're stupid. It's rotten and very insulting to us. Thanks for the reminder about Parade magazine. I forgot about them. These are the magazines that will not get renewed by me. Why should I?
DeleteThanks for stopping by, Shirley and good luck in the drawing! Speak again soon, any time. You know where to find me.
Cheers! S.J. Francis
